In March Mason Fire Department Engineer Don Gailey was honored with a special tribute for his efforts following Hurricane Katrina to help fire departments in Stone County Mississippi.

Because of his efforts and the generosity of the Ingham County Fire Departments, these fire departments in Mississippi now have two trucks and equipment to better fight wildland fires.

The Special Tribute reads:

LET IT BE KNOWN, That it is a genuine pleasure to commend Mr. Don Gailey of the Mason Fire Department for his services to his fellow citizens of the United States following Hurricane Katrina. His willingness to take time away from his work, family, and personal life in order to gather $80,000 worth of donated materials and goods and transport them to fire departments within the devastated areas of Mississippi is a true testament of the care and concern he has for other individuals.

The Mason Fire Department is an organization that prides itself on being of service to its fellow citizens. Though recognized and regarded by many for its great service, it is the exemplary work of its members that truly show the standards and ideals which are held high by this esteemed organization. Through his dedication to helping those affected by Hurricane Katrina, Mr. Gailey not only brings a positive light to himself, but to his fire department, community, and state.

To pursue the position of a volunteer firefighter is to pursue a dream to serve and work for the greater good of one’s community. A firefighter is an individual who deserves respect and admiration from those individuals he aids on a daily basis. To reach above and beyond the duties of his profession and travel hundreds of miles to serve a community in dire need of aid is an act that few words can express gratitude for. It is for Mr. Gailey’s actions and services to the State of Mississippi that we offer our humble words of admiration and thanks.
