Qualified Mason residents under authority of (MCL 28.422) who wish to purchase handguns may obtain a Michigan State Police Application and License to Purchase Pistol at the Mason Police Department Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The fee is $5.00, and the license is void after 10 days. After purchasing a handgun, the license must be returned to the Department within 10 days following the purchase of the handgun. The handgun then will be registered with the Michigan State Police. You no longer are required to bring the gun in for a safety inspection.
