Michelle Pietsch has served the City of Mason since August 2004 and in this role since October 2018. The Finance Director reports directly to the City Manager. The Finance Department provides comprehensive financial services and support to the City government, recommends financial policies to the City Manager, maintains excellence in the accounting of all financial transactions, provides support to City departments with financial, budgetary and procurement issues, and retains and enhances the Public’s confidence with respect to the City’s management of public finances.
Michelle leads a very experienced team. Michelle is committed to a high level of fiscal responsibility and providing timely, quality, courteous and useful information to City officials and residents. The Finance Department includes the accounting, budgeting, purchasing, investing, water and sewer billing and collections, payroll processing, assessing, information technology, and treasury functions.
Michelle is a member of the Michigan Municipal Treasurer’s Association (MMTA), Michigan Government Finance Officer’s Association (MGFOA), Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), and the Association of Public Treasurers of the United States and Canada (APTUS&C). She holds a Michigan Certified Public Treasurer (MICPT) certification and a Certified Public Finance Administrator (CPFA) certification. Michelle has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a dual major in Accounting and Management from Northwood University.
